Inauguration

The day started off by dedication the event to God followed by prayer song by the Nightingales of BT. The chief guest Dr. S. Shankar, Senior Scientist, Kerala forest research Institute, Executive Director Rev. Fr. Varghese Pathadan, The Principal K.T Joseph and the staff in charge of BT Mr. Doles were welcomed with flowers to the platform. After this was the welcome speech by the association secretary Mr. Vipin Soman. The comparer of the day Hera Joy Kacharakkal invited the chief guest to deliver the speech. The guests and the animators of the class officially inaugurated the association. The comparer invited the chief guest to address the gathering. The enlightening and inspiring speech by the chief guest left the audience spell bound. The Executive Director gave the presidential address, after which the faculty members offered felicitations to BEATS. The birth of BEATS was celebrated with the cutting and the distribution f the cake. Our class leader and chairperson of the college Miss. Deepthi Jojo gave vote of thanks. Color was added to the event by the lively animation and presentation symbolizing the "soul of BEATS". The colorful and innovative display of the posters by different groups of BT attracted both faculty and students alike. The event was concluded with the seminar presented by Dr. S. Shankar on "Bamboo".

Technical events conducted

BIOVISION 2013 was inaugurated by Dr. Renjan S Karippai, The Professor & Head, Krishi Vinjana Kendra, Kerala Agriculture University, Mannuthy. The Keynote address was given by him on the topic “Biotechnology: On an outsider’s view”. Dr. Suma T.B, Scientist, Department of biotechnology, KFRI, Peechi, delivered a talk on “DNA Bar coding” . Dr. Augustine Antony, Former Professor & Head, Department of Plant Biotechnology, Center for Plant Biotechnology & Molecular Biology and Associate Director of research, Kerala Agriculture University, Mannuthy, delivered a talk on “Effective Utilization Of Cashew In Kerala”.  Dr. Gireesh, Scientist, Rubber Research Institute, Kottayam delivered an informative talk on “Hevea crop Improvement: Conventional v/s Biotechnology”.  The Paper Presentation and Poster Presentation competitions were conducted and cash awards were given to the winners.

 

BIOVISION 2012 was conducted on January as a part of “PALMARIUS 2012”- techfest. It was inaugurated by Dr. Krishnan Ramanathan, New Product Manager, Novartis Pharma, Switzerland

BIOWIZARD 2012- The technical quiz competition for plus two students was conducted on 13th January 2012

BEATS released ECOBAGS under the initiation of Entrepreneurship development club on 20th August 2011

BIOQUEST- the department journal was released on 10th February 2011

HARITHA AVANI PROJECT- Faculties from BT department addressed plus two students from various schools in the diocese of Irinjalakkuda on the “Impact of pollution on earth and steps to be taken to make green earth.

“BT FOR THE PEOPLE”- a free medical camp and a seminar by Dr. V.J Paul was conducted on 28th November 2010 at Porunnakunnu Community Hall.

BIOVISION 07 – International symposium on bioengineering for environmental Management

BIOTECHNOLOGY 4 THE PEOPLE 07 - The unique venture "BT for the people" was conducted for second time on 11th, 12th of August, 2007. Free medical check-up for which618 people registered, Seminars, workshop on Mushroom cultivation and an exhibition on prospectus and aspects of BT. A class was conducted to house wifes on "Diary Technology and Production and Value addition of Milk". The association also coducted 6 lectures under its auspices during this period.

BIOVISION 06 - An International symposium on Healthcare

BIOTECHNOLOGY 4 THE PEOPLE 06 – A biotechnology awareness programme to reach the people was conducted on 15.10.2006. Free Medical camp, Training classes in Mashroom cultivation, free water sample testing, blood testing, general medical check-ups, etc. in the village of Thessery near Chalakudy.

  1. Mr. Pawan Talwar and team from Probiosis, a premier career advancement centre for Pharmaceutical and Life Science Professionals, Bangalore, presented a talk on “Industry class training”
  2. An interactive session for the biotech students was arranged on 8th August 2012, with officials from Ubio, (A Biotechnology Incubation Center, at Kinfra Park, Cochin)
  3. On 28th July 2012, Mr. George Paul, M.D Synthite Group of Companies, delivered a lecture on Bio entrepreneurship
  4. Our alumini members working in BIOCON Bangalore, addressed students about Industrial experiences on 5th May 2012 .
  5. Dr. Stephan Winter addressed the students on “Plant Viruses” January 28, 2012. He also briefed about the opportunities for higher studies in European countries
  6. A seminar in “ Virology” was conducted on 18/2/2011 by Dr. D.V.R. Reddy, ICRISAT, Hyderabad
  7. Officials from SAMI LABS, Bangalore, Interacted with the students as a part of the Industry- Academia collaboration programme on 26th November 2011
  8. Dr. Maheshkumar, Scientist, CTCRI , gave a lecture on “Plant viruses and its applications in Biotechnology” on 6th December 2010

STUDENT PROJECT GRANTS

  • A student project from Department Of Biotechnology secured first prize worth Rs.One lakh(Rs.1,00,000), in Techtop Competition which was conducted on July 18th - 20th at Technopark Trivandrum.The project was guided by MrsMegha P.M, Asst Professor (BT Deaprtment).The group consist of Ms.NikithaBalakrishnan, Ms.Chaithra K.V, Ms.Anju P.Anto, Ms.Mary Rose and Ms.Neethu Varghese.
  • A student project from Department Of Biotechnology the Best Project by Women award worth Rs. Twenty thousand(Rs.20,000), in Techtop Competition which was conducted on July 18th - 20th at Techno park Trivandrum. The project was guided by Mrs. Megha P.M, Asst Professor (BT Department).The group consist of Ms. Nikitha Balakrishnan, Ms. Chaithra K.V, Ms.Anju P.Anto, Ms. Mary Rose and Ms. Neethu Varghese
  • The project group consisting of Mr. Seby Antony, Ms Sangeetha Gopal, Ms Mariya Thomas and Ms Celine Thomas, guided by Rahna K Rathnan, won the Second Prize of Rs 30000 for the project “An Effective Approach of Bioelectricity Production From Lignocellulosic Waste” - in the KSCSTE – TECH FEST conducted as part of NATCON 2013 from 16th - 18th January 2013 at Kottayam
  • The project group consisting of Mr. Rothish Ramesh , Mr. Arjun S Kumar, Ms Gopika Kartha and Neenu Tom won Prof. Satheesh John Memorial Award consisting of prize money of Rs.60000/- for the best project in environment friendly technology category for the project “Electricity from Urine” , in YUVA Master Mind Competition by Malayala Manorama Daily in February 2013 project “Electricity from Urine” , held at Amal Jyothi Engineering College, Kanjirappalli. The project was guided by Mrs. Megha P.M, Asst Professor
  • The project group consisting of Mr. Pinto Paul, Ms Feba Jose & Ms Anju Paul, guided by Mrs. Praveena P participated in the KSCSTE – TECH FEST conducted as part of NATCON 2013 from 16th – 18th January 2013 at Kottayam . The project was on the topic “Effective Utilisation of Poultry Waste”.

  •  The project group consisting of Mr. Pinto Paul, Ms Feba Jose & Ms Anju Paul, guided by Mrs. Praveena P is selected for the Project Competition SPARK which is conducted in association with Mathrubhumi Daily & Mar Basalious College Of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram. The project was on the topic “Effective Utilization of Poultry Waste”.
  •  The project group consisting of Mr. Rahul Unnikrishnan, Ms Jesin Augustine, Ms Sreeshma Haridas & Ms Moni John guided by Mrs. Maria Issac is selected for the Project Competition SPARK which is conducted in association with Mathrubhumi Daily & Mar Basalious College Of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram. The project was on the topic “Slaughter House Waste Management Coupled with Biofuel Production”.
  • One student project titled “Biological Printer Ink” from S5 BT received a project grant of Rs.10000/- from KCSTE, Project guided by Mrs.Megha P.M. and students are Mr.Arjun S Kumar ,Mr. Rothish Ramesh, Ms. Gopika Kartha and Ms. Neenu Tom Palackal.
  •  One student project from S7 BT comprising of Ms Mariya Thomas, Ms Sangeetha Gopal, Ms Celine Thomas and Mr. Seby Antony received project grant of Rs. 8000/- for the project “Bio conversion of cellulosic waste from aquatic weed into value added products” from KCSTE, Project guided by Mrs. Rahna K Rathnan .
