M.TECH IN INDUSTRIAL BIOTECHNOLOGY

Industrial biotechnology involves working with nature to maximize and optimize existing biochemical pathways that can be used in manufacturing. The industrial biotechnology revolution rides on a series of related developments in three fields of study of detailed information derived from the cell: genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics. As a result, scientists can apply new techniques to a large number of microorganisms ranging from bacteria, yeasts, and fungi to marine diatoms and protozoa. Industrial biotechnology is one of the most promising new approaches to pollution prevention, resource conservation, and cost reduction. Aspiring candidate can definitely acquire knowledge in the application of various biotechnological and biochemical concepts in an industrial perspective and will be able to design innovative processes and products. He/ She can develop solution to address the demand for sustainable supply of fuels and food through biological means. A career in industrial biotechnology offers a variety of work assignments which includes basic research, process development, production, technical services, quality control or compliance control in the field of medicine, food and pollution control.

 



B.TECH IN BIOTECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING

Biotechnology engineering is the study, research and development of micro-organism and cell functions in living beings. The course combines engineering with other subjects like chemistry, genetics, bio-chemistry, microbiolog and Chemical Engineering. Biotechnology covers different fields of work like agriculture, disease research, eco-conservation, fertilizers, vaccines, energy production and animal husbandry.Creating biological solutions for the millions of problems out there is all in a day’s work for biotechnology engineers. Whether it’s medicine, agriculture, cell or seed technology, biotechnology engineering is the place where these solutions are dreamed up. As with most interesting careers, it’s extremely competitive



2016-17
Participation and Achievements in Project Competitions

1.Ms. Jasmin,Ms. Manasa, Mr.Vimal,& Ms. Haritha of 2012-16 batch( S8 BT) won the first prize in non-circuit category in the Project competion Shrishti held at Jyothi engineering college, Thrissur on March 19th 2016. The award consists of a cash prize of Rs 15,000 and merit certificate. Project guided by Mr.Francis John
2.Ms. Jasmin, Ms. Manasa, Mr.Vimal,& Ms. Haritha of 2012-16 batch ( S8 BT) participated in a paper presentation competition held at at IIT,Chennai on March 7th 2016 and won second prize.
3.Mr. Aswin and Mr.Sreeragh got first prize in Indian medical device expo for ‘Make in India’held on 15th April at Pune. This was organised by IIT, Mumbai, VNIT Nagpur and COE Pune.
4.Mr. sachin Thomas and Mr. Athul K Balachandran of S3 BT won the second prize in the Technical Quiz competition Conducted by METS School of Engineering mala. This was conducted as a part of national seminar on sustainable Engineering for Biotechnology on Oct 21st and 22nd 2016
5.Five project groups from the department was selected to the final round of Techtop
2016 organized at Sahrdaya college of Engineering and Technology on August 5th and 6th 2016.
6.Two groups from s7 BT has been selected to the final round in the IBETO project competition conducted by model engg;college thrikkakara on Sept.25th 2016.
7. A project group consisting of Mr.Sreeraj, Ms Annmariya and Ms.Femi was selected to the final round of Shrishti project competition held at Saint Gits Engineering college on Feb 14th 2017
8.A project of S8 BT got selected to the second round of Dr.Abdul Kalam Innovation competition.Ms. Aleena, Ms.Jeena, Ms.Swathy are the group members.
9.Ms, .Aleena, Ms Jeena and Ms.swathy of 2013-17 batch (S8 BT) got the Best Innovation award in the project competition Shrishti held at Jyothi Engineering college on March 8th 2017.Award includes cash prize of Rs 7000 and a merit certificate.

Workshops and conferences

1. Workshop on Next generation sequencing: 17/3/2016-19/3/2016
2. A three day hands-on workshop was conducted for S6 BT students(2013-17 batch) Resource persons were from Department of Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Trivandrum.
3. TRENDS-International Conference on Trends in Research, Engineering & Developmental Sciences was organized from June 15th 2016 to June 16th 2016. Post graduate students from other institutions and our college presented their papers during the conference

Technical Events

1. The annual technical fest Palmarius was conducted on 5th and 6th April with various technical events like Indriya, Acclerator, Maze hustle and Forensics. There were more than 100 external participants also for the event
2. FORENSICS-is all about testing your analytical abilities, observations and deduction skills. Progress through a series of methodologies and identify the criminal.
3. INDRIYA-takes you through series of assessments fludged with ticklers, games and much more surprises that really makes senses.
4. ACCLERATOR-Competition for miniature rocket launching.
5.MAZE HUSTLE-A confusing network of inter connected pathways and labrynth. Solve the tricky puzzles and find your way out to grab the final one.

Interships

1.40 students of 2014-18 batch (S5BT) attended internships at institutes like Biozeen, Bangalore, Indo American Hybrid Seeds Bangalore, AVT Biotech Kochi, Amala cancer research Institute,Thrissur etc during semester break.
2.Fifty three students from the 2015-19 batch (S3 BT) attended internships at various institutes like FACT Udyogamandal, Milma Dairy products, Kerala solvent extraction Ltd.etc during semester break.
